Exploring STEM identity, percieved topic relevance, and community
Role-playing as a teaching tool in an introductary college classroom
Do you remember when you got to do a role-playing activity in high school or college? While role-playing is often fond in our memories, research on the impacts of the technique itself remains limited.

In this research, we are developing a flood mitigation-centric lesson plan based on Brayes Bayou, Texas after Hurricane Allison in 2001, tailored to an introductary college-level hydrology class. We assess the impact of this lesson plan on STEM identity, classroom community, and percieved topic relevance, compared to a similar lesson plan taught in a lecture-based style.
